ABOUT SUTRAKAAR
The strings of traditions woven together to form the fabric of legacy is SUTRAKAAR. Sutrakaar Creations was set up in Jaipur, in 2017, to encourage experimental hand-loom weaving. We hand craft Eco-textile creations with paper and natural materials. Socially and environmentally conscious our products embody vibrant, edgy, smart sophistication pioneering a systematic transformation to the definition of luxury fashion.
Today paper waste contributes to being one of the third largest pollutants on Earth and our aim is to use as much of this waste and transform them into beautiful products. We try to follow the 4 R’s in our designs, reduce, reuse, recycle and respect. The idea is to juxtapose crafts with post-consumer waste such that we promote fair trade, craft empowerment, zero-waste and ethical fashion.
This is our contribution to save our earth for future generations.
ABOUT THE PRODUCT
Our USP is hand spinning and weaving of handmade paper, newspaper waste and create products from these fascinating hand woven paper fabrics. Handmade paper and Newspaper are cut into strips then hand spun, using charkha, by the local women trained to create quality paper yarn. The weaver transforms these yarns into beautiful fabrics on our hand-looms. The ready fabric is carefully hand crafted into various products falling in the categories of Fashion Accessories like clutches, sling bags, Tote bags, Interiors like Lampshades, Tapestries, rugs, carpets, Cushion Covers, Stationery Products like Diaries, Sketch books, pen stands, Jewellery – Neck pieces, Earrings, Wrist Bands and many more.
The various processes in the creation of the products make them very special and unique. Paper weaving is an old Japanese tradition. One can now own an up-cycled and transformed piece of this ancient tradition in the form of a functional and stylish product.
FOUNDER OVERVIEW
Sutrakaar Creations Studio has been a long term dream becoming a reality and I thank GOD and my parents in helping me realize it. My journey in this life began by being born in a family of weavers from Ponduru, a village in Andhra Pradesh. The strong family roots with a legacy and tradition of 400 years of weaving have played a vital role in shaping me into the person I am today.
The seeds, of setting up my own weaving studio, were sown in my mind at a very early stage in life. After graduation for a period of more than 17years I have worked as a merchandiser at Tirupur in Tamil Nadu and as a design educator in Coimbatore and later Jaipur. I also pursued higher education from Nottingham Trent University and through online courses. However there was always this desire to set up my own weaving studio. My experience in the Fashion Industry and Education Sector has given me the confidence to focus on my dream.
Our work has been featured in various renowned magazines, newspapers, and online platfoms like Better India, Your Story, India Today, NDTV, Femina.in, Housing.com, Indianwomenblog.org, edexlve.com, eshe.in, dailyhunt.in, Mint Lounge by HT Times, Economic Times, e-she magazine, DNA, Dainik Bhaskar and Rajasthan patrika are few of them.
